Like Robin Sharma says...
If there’s someone who mirrors this belief and willpower that is Hayley Herms. And it’s an honour to have her featured in the blog, to get to know her story and to be writing this post for you all.
I first came to know about her through following Corey Calliet, a celebrity personal trainer, (you might know him for the work he has done with Michael B. Jordan's body to perform in Creed), on Instagram where he is always kicking ass and empowering others with his journey.
When the 2019 edition of Revenge Body, show where he is the tough love trainer, was announced, I was curious to see the journeys of the participants. It’s a hell of a transformation and myself being on my own transformational journey, I’m always looking for those around me whether it is online or in flesh, who have been there or are overcoming odds and leading with example.
Anyhow, Hayley is a powerhouse, breaking the record of the show and releasing 64 pounds of weight in the process.
She not only did that, with the guidance of Calliet transformed her beliefs and is winning her life from the inside out.
"Let your presence reflect your pursuits and leave your mark. Your evolution will energise and inspire.”
The story of Hayley starts now, what she released in the show was more than just body weight, it was her past and those steeping stones are made from literally, sweat, blood and tears.
Quoting one of the books she read when she was younger, Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World”:
“Words can be like X-rays, if you use them properly–they'll go through anything. You read and you are pierced.”
I’m sure this interview will kick your ass and inspire you to get, be and do much better than you are right now because like Marisa Peer says 'When you believe in you, everyone else believes in you.’

- What made you decide to participate in the program and what was the biggest block or fear before actually doing it?
At the time I found the show, my mom had just passed and I had lost everything in every sense from finances to family. I had nothing and was about to go homeless and when I saw the show casting I thought it was a sign from God - and I think I was right! My biggest fear is not knowing what was going to happen. I am person that hates surprises, but I knew I just needed to have faith.
- Who has been your biggest support and did you find opposition from people you didn’t expect?
My biggest supporters have been my trainer on the show, Corey Calliet and my best friend, Patrick. They were by my side for everything and Patrick has been through it all with me since we were 12! I definitely lost a lot of friends along the way, I wasn’t allowed to tell anyone what I was doing (besides Patrick) and people can be very selfish, I lost some best friends and some good friends, but obviously they weren’t real friends to begin with for leaving me during a time I need support most.
- How did your inner circle react when you made it public?
My inner circle is very very small - I can count them on one hand so when I made it public, my inner circle was relieved we could all finally share my journey with the world. I tried to keep it a secret for as long as possible even when I could announce because I knew I needed to announce it when I was personally ready.
- In this month we are focusing on self talk so I’d like to know what’s your ritual before working out, what was your self talk when training for the show, what’s your ritual before a performance?
When I work out I definitely try to set mini goals for myself. During training, Corey and his best friend Donnie, would always tell me to set mental goals. So like one day I might run to the stop sign, but then two days later I keep running till I hit the red tree, and then a few days later I would set another goal because I was doing the same run. When I started, the main hike/run that I did/do for cardio during the show till this day - it took me 1 hour and 47 minutes and today I can do that hike/run in 37-38 minutes!
It’s a miracle what setting mental goals for yourself will do and taking it step by step, day by day. Living in the absolute present!
And when you get to that moment whether it be the new mental work out goal or a performance, I’ll cross that bridge, but right now I’m focused on what's in front of me. The future distracts and takes away from the now, you can’t live in the future all the time!
- What was the hardest part of joining the show?
The hardest part for me, was giving up all control of my life to someone I didn’t even know! As you saw on the show, I had serious trust issues at first with Corey and Corey was able to show me that it was okay to trust him and from there we were golden, but it took time!
- What has been your lowest point and what are the tools you have now to keep thriving?
My lowest point in life was definitely losing my mother and all the drama and backlash that came to me after that.
I always try to remember though how strong my mom was and if she could go through 9 chemos, several radiations, and other painful procedures then I can get through damn life and a workout!
- What makes you feel angry and what makes you feel grateful?
I try not to let things upset me too much, but I definitely get angry when I hear people who are full of excuses. I had to fight through so much to where I am today and when I hear people full of excuses, I know they can do better because I did it myself!!
I like to be grateful for the simple things in life. My favourite things I’m grateful for are my five senses - touch, taste, sound, sight, and smell!
- How do you bounce back from disappointment?
Taking time be alone and ask myself what the root of the problem is and how I can solve it, what is it teaching me, what lesson am I suppose to take away.
I always say, keep it moving!!! It’s normal to feel pain, but to make yourself suffer is optional.
- What fuels you, deep deep down?
I am definitely fuelled by reaching my dreams! I’ve been working on my dreams since I was a little girl and my dreams are the only thing that gave me hope growing up in such a violent household!
Telling myself I would achieve my goals no matter what! It might sound naive to some, but I think if you want something really bad, you can have it!
- Who do you look up to and why?
I really look up to myself! That might sound like a very vain answer at first, but when I really think about it. My family has never supported me and friends came and went. I always had to count on myself whether it be for money or support. I worked so hard to do and have everything I do today and I may not be a millionaire, but for someone my age, I’m doing great! I’m an artist and business woman and I try to only challenge myself to be greater than I was yesterday.
- What’s the grandest vision for your life?
I would love to go on world tour as an artist as my artist self full time, @ParadoxRevolution, model overseas and for major fashion houses such as Chanel and Fenty, start a few business ventures and really grow an empire. I also really want to be a mom and have a huge family as well some day!!
- What do you want the world to remember you for?
I want the world to remember me for spreading love and keeping it real. Love is not just positive, love takes time and healing. Love has ups and downs and I think the only way we can truly navigate love is by being 100% honest, sincere, and real with ourselves and with others.
Thank you for keeping it real, Hayley!
